Lesson Title: Environmental Slogans and Posters
Objectives:

Students will be able to recognize new “environmental” words and generate their own slogans in both English and Ukrainian. From the slogans they will create a poster that promotes environmental causes.

Warm Up:

[Write on board – “slogan = лозунг; гасло”] Introduce the idea of slogans. Ask what slogans can be used for and write suggestions on board. Discuss the nature of a slogan – short, simple, concise, bring your attention to a problem, generally positive etc. Have students brainstorm some slogans they already know. (ex. McDonalds, Nike, Nokia, other various brand advertising)

Practice:

Hand out to each student an English slogan and a Ukrainian translation of a slogan. The two should not match. Have students stand up and find the match to the English slogan. After students find the Ukrainian match to their English slogan, they should sit down and each share their slogan with the class. The class should discuss what each slogan means (if not immediately clear) and why it’s message is important.

Based on age, have pupils write between 5-10 sentences about what their slogan means and how it can help the environment.
Homework: Have students take these slogans home and transfer them onto paper and paint related images. Students should share their posters at the next class and then hang their art work in the school!!
